Nic Reyes
Senior Academy Coach
Nic has been an integral member of the coaching team at New Frontier since our inception. He is part of our fabric, loyal to our vision, and just so happens to be one of the best coaches around!
Nic was born in Calgary and grew up playing soccer in the northeast part of the city, competing with both local and elite teams, including the Calgary Selects and Alberta Soccer. His dedication and skill eventually earned him a spot on the U-20 Canadian National Team.
At the age of 16, Nic left home to pursue his soccer dream and joined the youth program at La Universidad de Chile (La U). After a year and a half with the club, Nic was given the opportunity to go professional. Unfortunately, he was unable to sign a pro contract with the first team after failing the required medical exams.
Returning to Calgary, Nic had several successful trials with clubs overseas but ultimately chose to stay in his hometown, playing professionally for the Calgary Storm/Calgary Mustangs in the PDL league. He later moved on to the A-League, where he competed against teams such as the Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, and Montreal Impact. Over the years, Nic has won four National Championships on the men's side.
Nic began coaching his own children and quickly developed into a competitive and successful coach, thanks to his extensive playing experience. He earned his Canada Soccer National B License and was later asked to assist as a Coach at the University of Calgary, working alongside Brendan O'Connell and Kevin Francis. He has also contributed to the Vancouver Whitecaps full-time program (elite U14-U16 prospects) and currently coaches at the Calgary Academy Centre.
"I would love for kids to experience the ups and downs of being on a team, learning valuable life lessons and habits both on and off the field as they grow. I want them to experience the same team and club culture that shaped me, creating lasting memories and lifelong friendships along the way."
