New Frontier at the Next Level: Celebrating Our Alumni’s Success

At New Frontier Soccer Club, we're proud to see our alumni achieve great things on the field. From collegiate success to international recognition, here’s a look at just a few of our standout players who are making an impact in the soccer world.

Sydney Wathuta has consistently been a standout player, and his recent achievement is a reflection of the dedication and effort he’s put into his game.

After an exceptional season that culminated in winning the 2024 NCAA Division I National Championship with the University of Vermont, Sydney was named America East Midfielder of the Year. With 11 assists, he solidified his status as one of the top players in his conference. On Dec 20 2024, Sydney signed with Colorado Rapids (MLS) as the 16th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft.

Joining New Frontier at our inception, Sydney quickly made an impact under the coaching of Brendan O'Connell and Kevin Francis. Known for his vision, leadership, and ability to control the tempo of the game, Sydney’s success story is one of dedication and perseverance. We are thrilled to see him lead his UVM team to a Conference Title and look forward to his continued success as he enters the pro game!

New Frontier 2006 player, Tate Asante, now plays as a midfielder for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and his team just won the NCAA Division I American Athletic Conference Title. Before making his mark at UNC Charlotte, Tate played for Calvary FC’s U-21 squad in the inaugural League1 Alberta Exhibition Series and earned a developmental contract with the first team in September 2023. His journey doesn’t stop there—Tate was also a member of the 2024 Bayern Munich World Squad, representing the best of the best!

Zario Reyes is making waves as he transitions to the Whitecaps FC MLS Academy. A talented 2008-born midfielder joined the Whitecaps in August 2023 after years of development with New Frontier. He now competes in the MLS Elite Youth Development League, playing against some of the best youth players from other MLS academies.

As he continues to challenge himself at the highest level, Zario is well on his way to a bright future in soccer, we’re excited to watch his progress.

Madden Asante is a dynamic 2009-born talent who has recently joined the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy. Renowned for its comprehensive development program, the Academy emphasizes technical, physical, and personal growth. Before moving to Vancouver, Madden was playing on our New Frontier ‘08 Boys team.

In August 2024, Madden was called up to represent Canada’s National U15 Team at the Concacaf Girls Championship in Alajuela, Costa Rica. Madden, Captained the team to a Bronze Medal finish! This international recognition speaks volumes about Madden’s potential and the bright future she has ahead. We’re proud of Madden’s achievements and look forward to watching her continue to grow!

Joey Pleznik, a third-year defender for the University of Calgary Dinos, is another success story to celebrate. Recently named to the Canada West First Team All-Stars, Joey has been a standout on the Dinos’ backline. His leadership and defensive skills have been crucial to the team’s success. Joey scored the first goal of the season for Calgary and finished the year with two goals, showcasing his versatility as a player.

Joey’s time with New Frontier Soccer Club helped shape the player he is today, and his continued success at the University of Calgary is a testament to his talent and hard work. We’re excited to see where his career takes him.

These players exemplify the dedication, talent, and hard work that New Frontier Soccer Club strives to instill in all its members. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing where their careers take them next.
